Case Study: Petro-Canada ISO 14001
When Suncor’s Montreal refinery initiated a new initiative to become ISO 14001 certified, they needed to create an effective way to reach all employees in all of the company’s plants. Success of the project depended on the employees’ ability to accept and adhere to the new standard. Initially they chose a PowerPoint presentation which upon closer inspection that was neither interactive nor engaging.
On a limited budget, with content to be delivered in English and French in multiple locations, Artifact was asked to transfrom a PowerPoint presentation into an online training course that was engaging, entertaining and effective. The goal was to ensure that the employees were engaged in the introduction of the new environemental standard. Artifact was asked to build a course that would drive home the key points and get employee feedback through testing. We needed a pedagogically sound design that offered standardized training accessible on CD-ROM and on their intranet.
Artifact created a interactive course with review tests and printable documents for the employees. We designed the presentation to speak on a personal level to engage each individual in the role that they would play in this new challenge. The course needed to be customised for each plant by using local pictures to help emphasize the individual’s responsibility in the initiative. The course was available on CD-ROM or intranet in both official languages. Engaging, entertaining and effective, the course was a key instrument in meeting their ISO 14001 deadline.
